7th ADAMS WIN

Attention: open in a new window. PDFPrintE-mail

Erewash maintained their unbeaten Adams County League record at the weekend (Sat 25th Feb) by beating Newark 20 points to 4. This win further consolidates our lead at the top of the table, but it is still mathematically possible for the 2 chasing teams (Ashfield & Alfreton) to catch up. However, on the plus side they do have to play each other.

Our final match of the season is against Gedling and if it goes ahead will be played on Sat 3rd March @ 10.00am. There is a possibility the match may not get played as Gedling have caused some controversy this year by refusing play against teams that include ladies. (NB: it was agreed at last year’s County AGM that clubs could play a max of 1 lady per rink if they were struggling to field an all male team, but Gedling have taken exception to this) Hopefully the subject of ladies bowling in the Adams will be fully discussed at the Associations AGM in April and a clear and binding rule applied to ALL CLUBS – including Gedling.

Erewash have taken advantage of this new rule on a couple of occasions themselves (see previous news items for details) but in recent matches we have fielded all male teams and if possible will do so against Gedling on Saturday.

NB: Since this news item was published we have been contacted by a representative from Gedling who insists they have not refused to play against teams with ladies in and if this is indeed the case we offer our apologies to Gedling for reporting otherwise, but we were only working on information received from the League Secretary.

CURRENT LEAGUE TABLE

Erewash: Played 7, Won 7, Lost 0, Points 142

Alfreton: Played 6, Won 5, Lost 1, Points 114

Ashfield: Played 6, Won 5, Lost 1, Points 110

NAT PAIRS SUCCESS

Congratulations to Greg Allam & Russell Robinson on their victory at Rushcliffe on Tuesday evening (21st Feb) in the Area 7 Final of the English Indoor Bowling Associations National Men’s Pairs.

Their opponents were Trevor Lee & Russell Peace from Nottingham and in what was a very competitive match, Greg & Russell managed to win by 22 shots to 14. The game was a lot closer than this 8 shot margin might suggest and the scores were in fact very close for most of the game. However, the Erewash pair were just a bit more consistent in the last third of the game and they managed to build up a bit of a lead. Although the Nottm pair did pick up 4 shots on the 19th end, Erewash picked up 3 shots on the 20th end & the Nottm pair conceded.

Greg & Russell now go through to the National Finals were they will play the winners of Area 15 (Bucks & South Oxon) on Thursday 5th April at 1.30pm. The Men’s’ Finals are once again being played at Nottingham IBC this year, so we look forward to seeing plenty of club members there on the day to cheer the lads on.

Also, good luck to Alan Peberday & Mick Wright who have also qualified to represent this area in a National Final. They have qualified in the Men’s Senior Pairs and this competition is to be played at Melton Mowbray IBC, starting at 9.00am on Tuesday 28th February.
